** WHAT'S NEW? .2.11.09 Cathy DIXON of Napier, NZ [ID 22877 128(10)2 12 below] sent me most of this research: "Our ancestry was recorded by a great uncle Sid DIXON who interviewed older relatives and basically got the tree back to Isaac DIXON of Rochester, Kent married 1803. He passed all the info onto my brother [Grant ID 22877 128(10)2 12 below] who in 1991 paid a genealogist in Kent to take the tree back further. He got it back to Walter DIXON m 1567. The genealogist drove around 60 odd Parishes to gather the info!" He is Richard M ELLENDER, deceased, referred to below as RME. Other sources include the IGI. Yet to search ancestry. PRIVACY If anyone alive wishes any of their details removed, just let me know.

Here are 2 photos by Dan JENKINS of Coldred: the church & the pond. `Beside the church is a farm which may connections to JENKINS/PETTET family. The pond in the center of town was used to determine if one was a witch. The accused would be bound hand and foot and swung out and dropped in the pond. If the person came to the top and floated they were innocent,if they sank and drowned then they were guilty. It would appear that none were innocent.' 11 kb.

We hold the records for the diocese of ROCHESTER, which was one of the
main issuing authorities for marriage licences in Kent. Unfortunately,
there are no marriage licences within these records, although there
are marriage bonds and allegations dating from 1637 until 1986 (with
many large gaps). Those for the years 1637-1900 have been microfilmed,
but later material will have to be consulted in the document
searchroom. To ascertain whether or not we hold the years you require,
you will have to first consult the diocesan catalogue (reference:
DRb/M), although the microfilms are arranged chronologically.
At CKS, there is a chronological, manuscript index to the names found
among the ROCHESTER diocese marriage bonds and allegations for the
years 1637 to 1840 (allegations only after 1823).
Additionally, full abstracts have been published of the diocese of
Canterbury's marriage allegations, bonds and licences. These cover the
years 1543-1869 and can be found on the library bookshelves at CKS
(reference: xK 929.3). However, those for the bonds and allegations dated
1700-1734 are available only in a microfiche format (reference: K 929.3).
GENEALOGY As a guide, family history sources for mid and south Kent can

CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL ARCHIVES CCA is managed in partnership with
Canterbury Cathedral and Canterbury City Council. It houses the
records of Canterbury Cathedral ( including its estates throughout
south east England and beyond), Canterbury Diocese (comprising

records for Canterbury City and its predecessors and records of other
